I was born and grew up in London. My parents were Irish. My mother was from Cork and my father from Belfast. They met in London. I have worked in agriculture, horticulture, as an HIV support worker, a decorator, taught horticulture, and written gardening articles for magazines. Homes have included London, France, Sheffield, Leeds, Bath and Bristol. I have an adopted son.
I have recently published, At The Dunes, a short novel/long-short story, set at a gay beach cruising area. Sixteen-year-old Sean is seeking his first sexual experience. He meets Alan, in his thirties, and makes a proposition, which Alan turns down. Events follow that leave Alan uncertain.
I am currently editing a novel entitled The Market Garden Student.
It is about Jean-Yves Meunier, a nineteen-year-old, highly enthusiastic gardener. He has grown up in a suburb of Paris and is on a student placement in England, where he is expecting to work on a market garden. He finds that his employer, shy Brian, has a decrepit polytunnel with a few ailing strawberry plants. Instead of growing fruit and veg, he is sent off with Brian’s brother, brash Lewis, to work on a building site. More than that, there are days when he is made to help out in their mother’s B & B, and even one occasion when the whole family turn undertakers. Youth Opportunities, the placement organisers, refuse to offer him an alternative. Meanwhile, in a summer romance with single mum, Tammy, and her uncle, he faces challenges to his sexuality.
This novel is about experience abroad, language, cultural difference, mistakes made while under pressure, sexuality and an energetic young man’s desire to pursue his career dreams. There is some dark comedy.
I will also soon be publishing another story based at a gay cruising area, entitled Goodbye To Preacher’s Wood.
I plan to publish a novel about a family growing up in a religious organisation who refuse to use doctors.Show Less
